VIC VICKREY G. C. "Vic" Vickrey, 83, of Las Vegas, passed away Sept. 9, 2009. He was born March 10, 1926, in City of Picayune, Pearl River County, Miss., and was a 50-year resident of Nevada. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Vic was a retired casino executive whose career began in the early 1950's here in Las Vegas. Prior to that, he operated various businesses in Texas. Vic was a marketing innovator, whose extensive knowledge in gaming management sparked many a trend in attracting casino customers to our city, not the least of which was the World Series of Poker, which Vic was credited with starting in Reno, in 1969. Vic was a lifelong gaming veteran dedicating his entire life to the industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; brothers, Lionel and Sonny; and sisters, Lois, Jane and Margie. Vic is survived by his children, Brenda, Guy, Bobby, Randy, Kandra, Bryan and Tracy; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. There will be a private ceremony for family only, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Davis Funeral Home, in Las Vegas.
